It is essential to have a strong immune system during the winter when the flu and cold are just around the corner. Each of them can put you down for at least a few days.
One very useful herbal remedy to keep them away is the so-called ‘Master Tonic’. Its powerful healing properties make it the ideal health boosting tonic for the cold season.
It has anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-viral qualities, which give the body a boost and help it recover quickly. Unlike dry herbs, the tincture enters your bloodstream within seconds so it can act fast. Just make sure you use high-quality ingredients, which preferably come from local farmers.
My personal testimonial on this ‘Master Tonic’:
I started it this winter from early October. I suffer from poor circulation which particularly effect my hands and feet. For the past five years, I have been plagued with chillblains each winter in my fingers. Thanks to this recipe, my circulation has improved dramatically and I have had no chillblains this winter.
I also contracted a fungal infection in my nails and rather than take anti-fungal prescribed tablets over three to six months (which wreck havoc on one’s liver), I opted for the ‘Master Tonic’. The fungal infection cleared up completely after only two weeks with healthy nails growing underneath.
Master Tonic Ingredients:
Nature’s antibiotic cures infections thanks to its fantastic blend of over 400 therapeutic antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. The best way to take advantage of its properties is to use it raw.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Its bioactive components have important antimicrobial effects. Along with probiotic bacteria, it boosts the immune system. It is a great ally if you want to prevent viruses or colds.
The recipe usually uses habanero peppers. However, any hot ones will do in the Master Tonic mix as all of them contain capsaicin, which alleviates congestion. Unripe habaneros also contain more Vitamin C than citrus fruit.
Did you know that sulphur gives onions their characteristic odor? It is also an amazing component that enables the body to flush away toxins and prevent diseases.
It reduces the pain levels, intestinal spasms and inflammation.
Horseradish root helps you heal several conditions that often occur in the winter such as strep throat, bronchitis or pneumonia. Due to the high content of Vitamin C and antioxidants, this root can strengthen the immune system.
The cur-cumin content makes it one of nature’s most powerful anti-inflammatory foods. The antiviral properties fight infections and keep the pathogens away.
My recommendation would be to make at least two large bell jars/masons of this tonic at a time, so as to keep you going for longer. Fill 3/4 of it with all the layers of ingredients and then fill it to the top with raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar.
Take 1 part of each fresh organic (preferably, but go ahead if organic is unavailable) ingredient’. Chop the white onions, garlic and hot peppers. Grate the horseradish, turmeric and ginger root. Add the apple cider vinegar and some raw non processed organic honey if you wish to sweeten.
The tonic will be ready in two weeks. Shake or stir it daily and always keep it in a dark place as the light exposure will damage its properties.
Filter the tincture using a cloth, then transfer it into bottles. You can use a cheese cloth, a strainer and a mixing bowl to squeeze all the tincture properly. The leftovers work great for seasonings or marinade.
I personally didn’t filter the tincture but instead kept it with all the pulp and diluted it with more apple cider vinegar.
Take 1/4 to 1 ounce twice daily when you’re healthy and 5 or 6 times when you are sick.
The master tonic doesn’t need refrigeration. As long as you keep it in a dark cupboard, it won’t get spoiled and you can use it indefinitely.
Don’t heat it because this will damage the enzymes and make it ineffective. You can dilute it with a bit of water if you feel that its taste is too strong.
